Deep in mud, unable to move, so heavy.
But it is now thinning.
She crawls out, stands up,
Unfurls her wings, stretching them out.
The mud cracks, falls away to the ground,
Releasing her wings, freeing them.
She shakes the expanse of white feathers on her back,
Smooths each feather down, cleans them.
She looks up to the sky, and pushes her wings down
To the ground, launching into the air.
Angling her feathers, she catches a breeze and glides.
Feeling the clean air, the warmth of the sun.
Feeling the freedom from pain.
